Located within a vacated industrial loft in Downsview Park, the CMHM revolves around an experiential circulation spine. Comprised of gently sloped ramps and level walking surfaces, the spine is further defined by a series of sloped and tapered walls carved out for displays and controlled views into exhibit spaces, subtly changing the speed, motion and perspective of the visitor. The intimacy of the architectural insertion is deliberately concentrated at the core of the museum thereby providing an open and neutral viewing environment for the main exhibits.
The new museum will house Canada’s leading collection of racing vehicles and historical motorsport information, and will feature race-car and engineering displays, interactive videos, theatre, working race-car garage, archive library, retail shop and an experience centre with state of the art simulators.
